much but I did make it out a couple of days ago. We hit the Ottawa around 1pm and had
our first fish in the boat by 2.
Not a bad start, came on a yellow fudally hawg spin.
We were trolling in 10 feet of water at 4 MPH.
We continued for a couple more hours but not even a sniff.
I had tracked the times at which I was catching muskies a couple of years
ago and found that once the water starts to get over 70 degrees they start to
bite more in the morning. In my
experience the window that the muskies feed during slowly moves earlier and
earlier as the season progresses.
I have found that once musky opens they tend to bite in the afternoon,
and as weeks go by and the water warms they bite earlier and earlier. I think that the feeding window is now
probably from early morning until noonish. I do think muskies can be caught anytime
and under any weather circumstances, however to maximize the catch, from mid-
July to mid-August it is best to be out in the early morning.
I will be out on the Ottawa a few mornings over the next week or
two so hopefully I’ll have more to report.
